At any age, a person's neck can sag or appear to be thicker or fuller than one would like. The size and fullness of the neck area often affects how clothes are worn and can be a source of self-consciousness or low self-esteem. For years, both men and women have expressed the desire to improve their overall look by reducing the size or correcting the shape of their neck area.
A full or sagging neck can be a result of age, genetics, excessive weight gain or weight loss. Today, there are several options for tightening and/or reducing the size of the neck area. the neck area can respond well to Liposuction alone or to a surgical procedure referred to as a Neck Lift.
What is a Neck Lift?
A Neck Lift is a procedure that is used to correct sagging or loose skin on the neck as well as correct the appearance of a double chin. It involves tightening of the muscle and removal of excess fat and skin. Since every individual is different, each person will have different requirements for this procedure.
Some patients with fullness in their neck and good overall skin tone may greatly benefit from Liposuction alone. Patients who have loose underlying neck muscles in addition to fullness in their neck may require a combination of Liposuction and the surgical Neck Lift procedure.
Patients that have a full neck with noticeable skin laxity may require Liposuction, a Neck Lift, and a Face Lift.
What does the procedure involve?
A surgical Neck Lift procedure may involve an incision behind the ear, slightly into the ear, or a small incision under the chin. The skin is separated from the fat and the muscle below and the underlying fat is either trimmed or liposuctioned to obtain an improved, more sharply defined neck contour. If necessary, the platysma band (muscle in the neck) will be tightened. The incisions are placed so that the scars are minimal and hidden. these scars will fade in time and be scarcely visible. this technique creates a more youthful, natural looking, and contoured neck.
What can I expect following the procedure?
- Recovery time varies and will depend on your individual healing rate.
- You may experience areas of numbness, which subside in time.
- Bandages are worn for several days and stitches are removed in 5 to 10 days.
- Swelling and bruising may occur but will fade and subside in 7 to 10 days.
- Many patients return to work in 1 to 2 weeks.
